Wrong way truck driver dies after colliding with big rig on Georgia interstate

A truck driver lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash in Georgia early Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on April 11, 2022, in Troup County, Georgia.

State police say that a tractor trailer driver traveling north on southbound I-85 struck a second semi truck traveling south near mile marker 7, sending the wrong way truck into the median.

The wrong way truck reentered southbound I-85 and then struck another vehicle.

Police have confirmed that the wrong way truck driver died at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of family, but authorities say that he is a 33 year old Alabama resident.

Multiple injuries have been reported as a result of the crash.

Traffic in the area is backed up as of the morning rush hour, according to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
