$10.2 million worth of meth and cocaine seized from truckload of fresh flowers

Authorities in Texas seized more than $10.2 million worth of meth and cocaine from a commercial vehicle at a border crossing last week.

The drug seizure took place on December 21 at the  World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers referred a 2001 Freightliner hauling a refrigerated trailer with a load manifested as cut flowers for a secondary inspection.

Using a canine unit and a non-intrusive inspection system, CBP officers uncovered 164.72 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in powder form, 854.07 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in crystal form, and 165.34 pounds of alleged cocaine within the vehicle.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $10,298,520.

The incident is under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.

“CBP is proud of the work our frontline officers do to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “This significant seizure is an example of ongoing operational efforts conducted daily to protect our borders.”
