3,175 pounds of marijuana found concealed in truck’s load of tires at Detroit border crossing

Published:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Detroit, Michigan, recently seized thousands of pounds of marijuana from a tractor trailer hauling a load of tires.

The drug seizure happened on April 20, 2023, at the Fort Street Cargo Facility.

CBP officers referred an inbound tractor trailer hauling a shipment of tires for additional screening.

During a physical inspection of the truck’s cargo, officers found  multiple packages of marijuana concealed inside the tires among brown packing paper and garbage bags.

A total of 3,175 pounds of marijuana was seized by CBP, in addition to the truck and trailer.

“The CBP officers in Detroit continue to work diligently—day and night—to accomplish our border security mission in order to protect our nation and the communities we serve,” said Port Director Devin Chamberlain. “This success is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”

CBP reminds the public that “marijuana remains a Schedule I controlled substance in the U.S., therefore importation is prohibited and contrary to federal law.”
