Arizona rest area reopens with $7.5 million in upgrades, expanded truck parking

Published:

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced that a popular rest area has reopened following a major renovation project.

On July 18, ADOT said that the Sunset Point Rest Area has reopened for public use after being partially shuttered in September 2022 for upgrades.

The rest area is located off I-17 at mile marker 252, 10 miles south of Cordes Junction.

Facility upgrades include signage, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping, along with renovated ramadas. Restrooms have new or upgraded lighting fixtures, doors, sinks, hand dryers and more.

ADOT also says that truck parking has been expanded at the facility as part of the project.

During renovations, truck parking was allowed and portable restroom facilities were available for drivers.

With the Sunset Point Rest Area now open, the temporary I-17 rest area nearby at Badger Springs Road will now be closed.

ADOT says that the rest area is visited by one million people each year.
