Arizona troopers find nearly 6000 rounds of ammo hidden in commercial vehicle tires

Officers with Arizona’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force (CVETF) recently found thousands of rounds of ammunition concealed in tires while performing a traffic stop near Tucson.

On June 3, a CVETF trooper stopped a vehicle on I-19 southbound near Tucson for “multiple moving violations,” according to a news release from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

During the traffic stop, the trooper allegedly noted “indicators of criminal activity.”

The vehicle was searched, which resulted in “the seizure of 5,800 rounds of ammunition hidden inside two commercial vehicle tires, including 800 high-caliber rifle rounds.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The CVETF is comprised of AZDPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau troopers and Arizona Department of Transportation Enforcement and Compliance Division officers. The mission of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force is to ensure safe, secure, and efficient commercial transport across Arizona.
