The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is investigating a weekend crash that left two state troopers and a local police officer injured.
The incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 23, in St. Louis County, Missouri.
According to MSHP, two troopers and a Glendale Police Department officer were at eastbound I-44 at S. Lindbergh Boulevard to investigate an abandoned vehicle.
“A short time later a tractor trailer traveling eastbound struck the rear of the troopers vehicles and then the side of the Glendale PD vehicle. All officers were sitting inside their vehicles with emergency lights activated,” MSHP said.
According to the crash report, the abandoned vehicle was blocking lanes 2 and 3 of the interstate. The three police vehicles were also parked in lanes 2 and 3 of I-44.
All three officers were taken to the hospital. Two of the officers were listed in moderate condition. One of the officers was listed in serious condition.
The truck driver was also hospitalized with moderate injuries.
Local outlet KMOV reports that the truck driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.
The incident remains under investigation.
