Big rig’s crash off overpass leave driver with serious head injury

A truck driver is seriously injured after driving off of an elevated highway in Delaware on Wednesday morning. 

The accident happened on May 10th in Edgemoor, Delaware just before 8 a.m.

According to ABC 6, the truck drove off of Interstate 495 south and plowed down an embankment before coming to a stop on Governor Printz Boulevard.

The unnamed truck driver was treated for a head injury on scene and was flown to a nearby hospital by helicopter, reported CBS

The crash reportedly tore down some utility poles and led to a fuel spill, prompting a HAZMAT response. Several cars were also struck by debris during the incident.

The wrecked tractor trailer blocked traffic on Governor Printz Boulevard and the I-495 southbound exit ramp to Edgemoor Road as crews worked to investigate the scene and clear the debris. 

The cause of the wreck is not clear and the driver’s identity has not been released.
