Canadian cops are now ticketing truckers for ELD Mandate violations

Published:

Police in Canada are now documenting and citing truck drivers who are in violation of electronic logging device (ELD) regulations.

Canada’s ELD Mandate officially went into effect in June of 2021 with a “soft” enforcement period focusing on education rather that citations.

As of January 1, 2023, truckers who are not in compliance with Canadian ELD rules are subject to citations from law enforcement in most provinces.

Canadian ELD rules apply to all federally regulated commercial drivers (i.e. those who travel between provinces/territories or across the Canadian border). U.S. drivers operating in Canada must also use one of the certified devices.

The ELD Mandate does not change any of Canada’s Hours of Service rules.
