Caught on Iowa DOT cams: Semi trailer sliced open by traffic pole during crash, spilling watermelons

Published:

Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) traffic cameras captured a semi truck crash that led to operating while intoxicated charges for the driver.

The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m on February 20 on I-380 in Waterloo, Iowa.

According to The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, 35 year old Florida-based truck driver Andriy Koshmak was northbound on I-380 when he lost control and struck a median barrier. The truck slid and struck a highway sign pole, which ripped the trailer open and caused the truck’s load of watermelons to spill out onto the ground.

Police reported finding alcoholic beverage containers in Koshmak’s truck. They also say that he was over the legal limit on a Breathalyzer test.

Koshmak was taken to a hospital for treatment and later arrested on operating while intoxicated charges.
