This week, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reminded truckers to keep their windshield areas free from objects that may cause visual obstruction.
On September 12, CHP – Commercial Vehicle Section shared a Facebook post asking truckers to keep items off the dash.
“Not only are tinted windows to the front and sides of a driver illegal, but so are items on the dash or hanging in front of the driver. The items in the photo block the driver’s view of the roadway ahead. A clear view of the roadway ahead will help keep everyone safe on California highways,” CHP said.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) allows tinted windshields and side windows “as long as the light transmission is not restricted to less than 70 percent of normal.
California has similar vehicle window tint requirements but restricts tint to the “topmost” portion of the windshield.
