CHP troopers find numerous violations while enforcing seven ton weight limit

Published:

Troopers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently increased patrols to enforce commercial vehicle weight limits on rural roadways.

The CHP – Monterey division said on May 11 that they have been actively enforcing a seven ton weight limit in the small town of Spreckels this week. Troopers say that there are posted signs stating “Commercial Vehicles Over 7 Tons Prohibited” in the town.

The increased patrols have focused on Harkins Road and Hatton Avenue south of Hunter Road.

CHP says that the increased patrols were needed because the infrastructure can’t withstand the weight of commercial vehicle traffic.

“During several enforcement contacts our officers found unlicensed drivers, expired registration, logbook violations, false DOT numbers, and numerous equipment violations. There are significant consequences for these violations,” CHP noted.

Spreckels is located between Salinas and Monterey.
