Concrete beam load shift cut a semi truck cab in half in Illinois

Published:

Two people were lucky to survive when a load shift cut a semi truck cab in half in Illinois on Tuesday morning.

Police and firefighters responded to the incident shortly before 9 a.m. on November 28 at Route 12 and Deerpath Road in Lake Zurich, Illinois.

According to the Lake and McHenry County Scanner, two people were inside a truck transporting a concrete beam on a flatbed trailer when a braking incident resulted in a load shift.

Images shared by the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department show that the top of the cab was sheared off from the rest of the vehicle by the shifting load.

Remarkably, only minor injuries were reported. The two truck occupants were able to get out of the vehicle on their own.

“North and Southbound Route 12 will be down to one lane in each direction for an extended period of time. Residents are asked to please avoid the area,” firefighters said.

This is a developing story.
