A trucker’s dash cam footage shows the moments before a motorist ignored the rules of the road and drove straight into the path of the moving semi truck.

The accident happened on Thursday morning, May 18th in Fresno County, California on Highway 33.

The dash cam shows the car driving straight through the stop signs, flashing lights, and “cross traffic does not stop” sign and into the path of the moving truck, which was unable to stop.

“The Corolla entered the intersection in front of the big rig the big rig was unable to avoid the collision,” Sergeant Veeson of Coalinga CHP explained to ABC 30

53-year-old Juan Cortez and 21-year-old Kevin Cruz Montesinos, died at the scene. A third man, 77-year-old Amancio Hildago, died a short time later at the hospital. The 23-year-old truck driver was not hurt, and is cooperating with police investigation.

“He’s okay, he’s nervous. He is in Fresno now to do the drug test to confirm everything is 100% and that’s it,” said Julio Caballero, the owner of the trucking company. He says this is the first time one of his drivers has been involved in a collision with multiple fatalities.

Caballero says that the area where the collision took place is a notoriously busy one.

“It’s busy for everybody, the area is busy for everybody. It’s a lot of business in the area and HWY 33 is busy all the time with the commercial trucks.”
