Electric truck battery fire requires multiple fire departments to extinguish

An electric semi truck caught fire at a facility in Arizona on Monday, prompting a response from multiple agencies.

The incident occurred in Tempe, Arizona on Monday, September 4th at around 5 p.m. at Arizona Lithium near Kyrene and Elliot roads.

According to ABC 15 News, fire departments from Tempe, Phoenix, and Chandler all responded to the facility, where they found a lithium-ion battery inside of an electric semi truck on fire. The departments removed the truck from the building as a precaution and extinguished the fire.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire was not released.

Earlier this summer, multiple Nikola electric semi trucks caught fire in Phoenix, and one even reignited a month later. Nikola initially suspected foul play as the cause of the fire, but later blamed a battery defect, which prompted a recall.
