Florida roadway closed as smoke from controlled burn causes poor visibility

A Florida roadway was shut down for smoky conditions causing poor visibility early on Tuesday.

The incident happened on February 7th in east Orange County, Florida and the closure began around 3 a.m. in the area of James Creek Road in Christmas.

According to WFTV 9, the smoke from a 75-acre prescribed burn in the area caused smoky conditions that led to dangerously low visibility. As a result, Florida Highway Patrol shut down all eastbound and westbound lanes of SR 520 between State Road 528 and Nova Road.

The roadway was still closed as of 8:30 a.m. CST. Alternate routes between Orange and Brevard Counties include State Road 50, State Road 528 and U.S. 192.
