Good Samaritans struck by jackknifing semi while directing traffic around previous wreck

One person is dead and another is critically injured after being struck by a semi truck while attempting to direct traffic around a previous wreck.

The incident happened just after 1:30 a.m. on Friday morning, February 3rd in Garland, Texas.

According to 5 NBC DFW, an initial rollover accident on the westbound LBJ Freeway at Jupiter Road prompted two Good Samaritans to pull over and attempt to direct traffic around the wreck. As the two people stood in the dark roadway to direct traffic, an oncoming semi truck tried to brake for them and jackknifed, striking both of them before overturning across the highway.

One of the people in the roadway was killed in the impact, and the other was critically injured. Both the truck driver and the driver in the initial rollover crash were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released.

The semi truck in the incident remained across all lanes of traffic until just before 11 a.m.
