Group asks for help getting home three truckers who passed away OTR this week

Published:

The founder of a prominent trucking charity shared a social media post highlighting the plight of families who lose their truck driving loved ones out on the road.

Robert Palm is a veteran trucker and the founder of the IRS 501(c)(3) recognized charity truckersfinalmile.org, a group that works to reunite truck drivers with their families in the event of death, illness, or injury that occurs while they’re out on the road. The group was founded in 2014 and has helped hundreds of trucking families in their hour of need.

On June 7, truckersfinalmile.org shared a must-read message after several drivers passed away on the job this week.

From truckersfinalmile.org:

Imagine

The absolute worst knock at your door.

Your loved one has been found deceased in the truck a thousand miles from home.

Added to the realization of the loss, the grief, the shock, the not knowing, are the logistical challenges and the cost to get your loved one home to be laid to rest.

Preparation and transportation costs can be in the thousands!

When a loss of life occurs in another state, the death certificate will be issued in that state and must accompany the decedent during travel. In certain instances a ‘temporary’ or ‘pending’ certificate can be issued simply to facilitate travel; with the ‘official’ following weeks or maybe months later.

The requirement that the death certificate accompany the remains MAY delay you being able to file an insurance claim, access a bank account, file for veteran or social security or other related options of assistance.

Our Mission in our loss of life program is to eliminate the family’s financial burden to bring a deceased truck driver home to be laid to rest. (And we have fulfilled that Mission more than 500 times).

We do not inquire about assets, we do not attach any lien to any home, property, or insurance policy and those we assist NEVER receive a bill from us.

Already this week, we have had four families that had that knock on their door.

These requests will be in the thousands each and we could use your help.

We operate on the donations we receive. They are tax deductible and any amount would help.

So if has been a bit since you last donated, or if you have been thinking about donating, or if you would like to join our great family of sponsors, please check out our website, vet us, and if you find us worthy of your generosity, please make a tax deductible donation today at:
