Transportation authorities in Louisiana are asking drivers to seek alternate routes after a Tuesday bridge strike caused structural damage to an I-10 overpass in the Lafayette Parish area.
The bridge strike occurred Tuesday afternoon along Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette Parish as a truck hauling an excavator with an improperly positioned boom struck an overpass, KLFY reports.
No injuries were reported.
The overpass strike resulted in significant damage to the structure.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has closed the following roadways:
- Interstate 10 in the eastbound direction, at Interstate 49, is closed
- The two inside lanes of Interstate 49 in the northbound direction, under the Interstate 10 overpass, are closed
- Exit 1A to access I-10 eastbound is closed
Louisiana DOTD crews are performing load testing on the bridge on Wednesday.
Drivers are asked to use alternate routes along I-10 eastbound prior to U.S. 165, La. 26, La. 13, and La. 182.
