Portion of Interstate 25 reopening today with plans for the remainder to open by Thursday evening.
I-25 near Pueblo, Colorado was closed between mile marker 110 and 101 after a train derailment on Sunday that took the life of one truck driver. Now, the Governor of Colorado has announced that a portion of the interstate will reopen on Wednesday afternoon.
According to The Gazette, southbound I-25 will be reopened by Wednesday afternoon. Governor Jared Polis also announced that the northbound side is expected to reopen by Thursday afternoon, October 19th.
Detours around the closure had created delays of up to two hours for some drivers in the area. Initial investigation of the incident showed that a damaged portion of rail was responsible for the derailment. It is unclear when the train track will be operational again.
