I-55 in Illinois shut down for dust storm, ‘large’ pileup crash

A dust storm and a major multi-vehicle crash with injuries forced officials to shut down I-55 south of Springfield, Illinois, on Monday.

Illinois State Police (ISP) say that I-55 is closed in both directions from mile marker 52 – 80.

ISP says that troopers are currently working a “large” crash both south and northbound I-55 from milepost 63 to 80.

Images captured at the scene appear to show dozens of crashed vehicles.

A dust storm was reported in the area when the crashes occurred.

You can see videos from the crash scene below.

It isn’t yet clear how many vehicle were involved or how many people were injured.

This is a developing story.
