Indianapolis interstate to reopen after years of construction

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced that they’ll be reopening I-65 through the North Split interchange in downtown Indianapolis this weekend.

As part of the reopening process, crews will work in stages over the weekend on the northbound and then the southbound lanes in order to fully reopen I-65 as of May 1, 2023, weather permitting.

As part of the process of reopening I-65, drivers should expect short-term lane restrictions as crews install pavement markings and move barrels to open the lanes. With the new movements, drivers can travel along I-65 through the North Split from both directions.

The North Spilt construction project began in late 2020. The North Split interchange has been closed since May 2021, with traffic being diverted onto I-465.

INDOT is reminding drivers that under the new permanent North Split interchange configuration, there will no longer be access to southbound I-65 via the Delaware/11th Street ramp and access to the Meridian/Pennsylvania Street exit will only be available through northbound I-65.
