Major commercial vehicle enforcement blitz taking place next week in Arizona

Published:

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be conducting a commercial vehicle enforcement detail on major interstates starting on Monday.

From Monday, February 20, 2023, through Friday, February 24, 2023, the Arizona DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force (CVETF) will conduct “Operation Southern Shield.”

Troopers will be focusing their efforts on I-10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico state line, and on I-19 from Tucson to the international border.

During Operation Southern Shield, officers will target hazardous driving violations, conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections, and educate drivers on safe and compliant operation in an effort to reduce crashes involving commercial motor vehicles.

Arizona DPS says that non-commercial vehicle drivers who operate unsafely around trucks will also be targeted during the blitz.

Operation Southern Shield will be conducted with assistance from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the Marana Police Department, the Oro Valley Police Department, and the Tucson Police Department.
