Massive fuel tanker truck fire reported in Maryland

A truck driver was hurt on Friday morning during a major crash and fire in Pikesville, Maryland.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m on I-795 at the Baltimore Beltway in Baltimore County.

Officials say that a tanker truck crashed and overturned in the northbound lanes of I-795.

The vehicle caught fire following the crash, sending up huge plumes of black smoke.

The truck driver was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and is in serious condition.

The fire was extinguished shortly before 9 a.m.

The Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association reports that the truck was hauling heating fuel.

Firefighters are asking drivers to avoid the area. I-795 northbound is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time.

The crash is under investigation by Maryland State Police.
