Memphis thieves shoot at trucker after stealing his load of chicken while he slept

Memphis thieves broke into a sleeping truck driver’s trailer to steal from his load of chicken and then opened fire when he confronted them, according to police.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to a reported robbery in the 3300 block of Pearson Road at 6:40 a.m. on December 6.

Officers were told that the truck driver was asleep in his vehicle but woke when he felt movement coming from his trailer.

The truck driver said that he got out of the cab to investigate and saw several males unloading boxes of frozen chicken from the trailer into their own vehicles.

“The victim stated that when he confronted them, one of the suspects attempted to rob him and shot at him several times as he ran away,” MPD said.

The truck driver was not hit by gunfire.

While police said that there were several suspects involved in the cargo theft, they were able to provide descriptions for two of the suspects.

MPD says the first suspect appears to be a Black male wearing a black jacket and a yellow safety vest, and that the second suspect was a male wearing black pants and a white jacket.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.

MPD is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.

MPD released video from the incident which you can view below.
