Motorist pinned beneath pile of logs from wrecked semi truck

A logging truck crashed into three other vehicles in Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon, sending two people to the hospital. 

The accident happened on August 5th in Portsmouth, Rhode Island at around 2 p.m. on East Main Road. 

According to WSFB 3, a total of four vehicles were involved in the wreck, which ended in the semi truck slamming into a telephone pole and a Mercedes trapped beneath a pile of dislodged logs. 

“One was pinned under a logging truck the other two vehicles were hit,” said Assistant Chief Howie Tighe of the Portsmouth Fire Department to 10WJAR News. “One of them was hit head-on by another vehicle.”

The motorist in the Mercedes had to be extricated from the car and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Another person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Three other people refused treatment. The truck driver was not seriously hurt. 

Dozens of people were left without power following the wreck due to the telephone pole being damaged in the wreck. The incident is still being investigated.
