Video and images shared in the wake of Tropical Storm Hilary show how mudslides and flooding made travel almost impossible for truckers in some parts of California over the weekend.
Hilary hit Southern California as a tropical storm on Sunday and resulted in major flash flooding, mudslides, and landslides that forced the closure of a large number of roadways throughout the state.
Images and video shared by Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol’s Mojave Division, and a local tow truck driver show that one semi truck caught up in the bad weather was buried in mud almost up to the bottom of the driver/passenger windows on SR 58 in the Tehachapi area.

According to a Monday afternoon update from Caltrans, eastbound SR 58 is open with a brief detour at the Cameron overpass, but westbound SR 58 is still closed from Exit 165 to Towerline Road.
