New Mexico highway closed for helicopter vs. semi truck collision

Officials in New Mexico report that a major crash involving a helicopter occurred on Highway 60 on Friday.

The crash was reported by the Valencia County Fire Department (VCFD) shortly before 11 a.m.

Local outlet KOAT reports that a semi truck collided with the rotors of a medical helicopter as part of a secondary accident on Highway 60 east of Highway 47.

The helicopter was damaged and will require towing away from the scene, VCFD says.

Images shared by VCFD also show a silver pickup truck involved in the incident.

There is no word yet from officials on injuries.

Both directions of Highway 60 are expected to be closed for an extended period of time.

The incident is under investigation by New Mexico State Police.
