Off-duty cop not likely to survive after crashing into semi truck making a U-turn

Published:

An off-duty police officer is in grave condition following a weekend crash in Wisconsin involving a semi truck making a U-turn.

The crash occurred at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

Police say that 30 year old off-duty Milwaukee Police Department officer James Nowak was southbound on S. Pennsylvania Avenue. A semi truck driver was also headed southbound on S. Pennsylvania Avenue ahead of Nowak’s vehicle. When the semi truck driver attempted a U-turn, Nowak’s vehicle struck the trailer.

Nowak required extrication from the vehicle by local firefighters. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is now listed in grave condition.

The Oak Creek Police Department says Nowak is unlikely to survive.

The truck driver and a passenger were not hurt in the crash. Police say both people remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ben Lockwood at 414-766-7627.
