Ohio police seek trucker after loose set of dual tires strike big rig cab, killing tanker truck driver

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is seeking a truck driver who was involved in an accident that killed a fellow truck driver in the Toledo area on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on January 17 on I-280 in Lake Township, Ohio.

Troopers say that a semi truck traveling south on I-280 lost a set of dual tires from one of its axles.

“The dual tires went through the median and struck a northbound semi-tractor trailer combination,” OSHP said.

The tires struck the cab of the northbound tanker truck on the driver’s side.

The truck driver in the northbound truck was later pronounced dead at the scene.

OSHP told WTOL 11 that they believe that the trucker was killed instantly on impact. No one else was inside the truck when the crash occurred.

No other injuries were reported.

OSHP said that the driver of the southbound truck did not stop at the scene.

If you have any information on this incident, you’re asked to contact OSHP’s Bowling Green post at 419-352-2481.
