One dead in Florida after bus carrying 38 crosses center line, striking tanker truck, police say

A fatal crash involving a bus hauling produce workers was reported in Polk County, Florida, on Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on April 3 in Fort Meade, Florida.

Authorities say that a private bus carrying 38 people crossed over the center line on US-98 and struck a tanker truck carrying a load of gasoline head-on.

CBS42 reports that one person who was on the bus was killed in the crash and ten others, including the tanker truck driver, were hospitalized with injuries. The tanker driver’s injuries are said to be minor.

The workers were reportedly being transported to pick strawberries in Plant City when the crash occurred.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
