At least one person was killed in a Wednesday morning pileup crash on I-80 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
The pileup occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on November 1 on eastbound I-80 at mile marker 14 in East Lackawannock Township.
Images captured at the scene show multiple semi trucks involved in the crash.
Pennsylvania State Police have confirmed one fatality as a result of the crash. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
It isn’t yet clear how many vehicles were involved or how many people were injured.
Eastbound I-80 remains closed for cleanup and investigation.
Mercer County saw the first significant snow of the season last night and into Wednesday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation shared the following update on the road closure:
Interstate 80 eastbound remains closed in Mercer County from the Interstate 376 eastbound interchange to Exit 15 (Route 19, Mercer) as clean up continues following a crash earlier today.
There is also a slowdown for I-80 westbound traffic as well as other routes in the area between West Middlesex and Mercer. Drivers should expect delays on various roadways, including Route 62 and Route 318.
Drivers are reminded to continue to use caution while traveling during winter weather conditions and to give themselves additional time to arrive at their destinations.
