One pedestrian dead, one injured, after semi truck strike on Illinois interstate

Published:

Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal truck vs. pedestrian crash that occurred early Friday morning in Bolingbrook.

Police responded to northbound I-55 at mile marker 267 in Bolingbrook around 3:25 a.m. on June 23.

At the scene, one person was found deceased and a second seriously injured.

Investigators determined that pair had parked a car on the right shoulder of I-55 and exited the vehicle. ISP said that they were standing near lane 3 of I-55 when they were struck by a semi truck.

Police say that the semi truck driver did not stop at the scene following the pedestrian strike.

Northbound I-55 was closed for hours following the crash, but all lanes reopened by 7:30 a.m. Miles-long traffic backups were reported in the area.

The crash is under investigation.
