One reported dead, truck driver held hostage by armed suspect during hours-long police standoff in Ohio

Police in Ohio responded to a hostage situation inside a stolen semi truck near Dayton on Wednesday morning.

According to London Ohio Police, the incident began around 1 a.m. on August 2 when an officer attempted to stop a passenger vehicle with no rear lights or visible registration.

During the attempted traffic stop, a male and a female fled in the vehicle, on US 42 north out of London to a truck stop where they fled on foot.

When the officer pursing the suspects attempted to use a Taser on the male, the male suspect fell and pointed a handgun at the officer.

Police say that both suspects were able to flee to a bobtail truck parked at the truck stop.

The suspects then fled from the truck stop in the semi with the truck driver still inside.

The Ohio State Patrol and Madison County Sheriff’s Office joined London Police in pursuing the semi truck.

The police pursuit came to a halt in Montgomery County just off of I-70 on the access road to the Dayton International Airport, officials said.

An hours-long police standoff ensued with the truck driver being held hostage inside the truck while negotiators attempted to communicate with the suspects.

Dayton 247 Now reports that there was an officer-involved shooting and that the female did not survive. The male suspect suffered critical injuries.

The truck driver reportedly survived with only minor injuries, according to the outlet.

This is a developing story.
