Pilot car driver struck and killed by another truck while checking on rig 

A pilot car driver is dead after being struck and killed by a semi truck while walking to check on the rig he was guiding. 

The accident happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13th on Interstate 40 in Johnston County, North Carolina. 

According to WRAL News, Roy Ward was driving a pilot car when the rig he was guiding pulled over onto the shoulder of I-40 west. Ward then pulled over his own car and got out to check on the truck. A second semi truck then moved from the left lane to the right lane, striking the parked rig and Ward in the process. 

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. One of the truck drivers was seen leaving the scene in a pickup.
