Police nab one of two men caught stealing laundry detergent from parked tractor trailer

One man was arrested and another is still at large after getting caught stealing laundry detergent from a parked tractor trailer in Memphis on Monday.

The crime occurred on June 19th at around 3:30 a.m. at the Marathon in the 3000 block of South Third Street in Memphis, Tennessee.

According to News Channel 3, police responded to a call reporting ‘prowlers’ and arrived to find a white pickup parked near the back of a semi truck parked near a gas station. 22-year-old Kemptrell Daniels was standing near the back of the rig when police arrived and made a run for it, but was soon caught.

A second man jumped into the pickup when police arrived and successfully got away, spilling boxes of Tide laundry detergent out of the pickup as he fled.

The trucker told investigators that around $7,000 worth of laundry detergent had been stolen out of his trailer. While being interrogated, Daniels admitted to officers that he and a man called “Lil D” broke into the trailer and started loading the detergent into the pickup.

“Lil D’ has not been caught, but Daniels has been charged with burglary of a building and has been released from jail. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on June 20th.
