Police searching for truck driver that fled after striking two pedestrians

Police are searching for a truck driver that fled the scene after striking two pedestrians on the side of an Illinois highway. 

The accident happened on Friday morning, June 23rd at around 3:23 a.m. in Bolingbrook, illinois. 

According to Fox 32, 28-year-old Perla Andrade-Garcia and another person pulled over onto the shoulder of Interstate 55 northbound after running out of gas. The two people then exited the car and were soon hit by a passing semi truck. The truck driver then reportedly fled the scene. 

Andrade-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second person was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Andrade-Garcia was the mother of two children. 

The investigation of the incident caused a seven-mile traffic jam as far back as Route 126. Police are still searching for the truck driver involved.
