POLICE: Truck driver at large after load clips second rig, causing chain reaction crash

A chain reaction crash has Pennsylvania State Police searching for truck driver responsible for the wreck that seriously injured a motorist and sent another trucker to the hospital.

The accident happened on Thursday evening, November 16th just after 10 p.m. in Lurgan Township, Pennsylvania on Interstate 76 westbound near the Blue Mountain Tunnel entrance at mile marker 199.3.

According to ABC 27, a white tractor trailer hauling a bulldozer was heading east on I-76 when the load clipped the driver’s side tire of a westbound tractor trailer. The impact caused the second truck driver to lose control of the rig and veer into eastbound traffic, where it collided head-on with a pickup and pushed it into a third semi truck. After the accident, the rig hauling the bulldozer continued driving and fled the scene.

The pickup truck driver was seriously injured in the crash and was flown to the hospital. A passenger in the pickup and the driver of the second tractor trailer were also hurt and transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Pennsylvania State Police are asking anyone with information on the accident, the white tractor trailer, or the truck driver to contact them at 717-776-2857.
