POLICE: “Unfamiliarity” with roundabout blamed for wreck that left driver with “significant injuries”

Published:

Police are blaming a trucker’s unfamiliarity with the area for a serious wreck that left him with injuries to his arm.

The accident happened at approximately 11:52 p.m. at a roundabout in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on Wednesday, May 10th.

According to the Fond Du Lac Police Department, emergency responders arrived to the area of East Johnson Street and Wisconsin American Drive after receiving reports of an overturned tractor trailer with the driver pinned inside.

Officers arrived to discover a 22-year-old trucker pinned in his seat with what appeared to be a compound fracture to his arm and significant blood loss. An officer’s body cam captured him applying a tourniquet to stop the blood loss before the young driver was extricated from the cab and transported to a nearby hospital. The driver was later flown by helicopter to a second hospital for further treatment of his injuries.

The incident is still under investigation, but officers believe that “excessive speed and unfamiliarity with the location and roundabout” contributed to the wreck.
