Residents scramble to steal packages spilled in wreck that ejected Amazon truck driver

A semi truck wreck turned into a theft situation in California early on Saturday morning.

The accident happened on June 3rd on the 210 Freeway in Monrovia, California at around 1:30 a.m.

According to KTLA 5 News, the Amazon truck was heading west on the 210 Freeway at Myrtle Avenue when it crashed into a side wall, collapsing a portion of it. The force of the impact ejected the truck driver, who landed in the carpool lane. Debris scattered in the accident also caused two other vehicles to collide with each other, and packages fell down an embankment and into a neighborhood below the freeway.

The female truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. One of the other drivers was also transported to the hospital, but the severity of their injuries is not known.

Residents in the neighborhood began stealing some of the scattered packages at one point, prompting police to guard the crash site. The recovered packages were transported to a nearby Amazon fulfillment center. It is unclear how long it will take to fully repair the damaged sidewall.
