Semi trucks collide in fiery blaze, closing I-85

Interstate 85 was shut down on Tuesday afternoon for a fire involving two semi trucks.

The incident occurred on August 1st in Warren County, North Carolina near the Virginia state line.

The NC Highway Patrol reports that a tractor trailer hauling yogurt traveling at 70 mph crashed into the back of another tractor trailer hauling flooring traveling at 60 mph. Both truck drivers were able to exit their cabs before the truck hauling yogurt caught fire. The fire eventually spread to the truck hauling flooring.

Both tractor trailers were completely burned in the incident, and bulldozers were used to remove the remains.

WRAL News reports that the roadway was still closed at 2:15 p.m. Those looking to travel through the area are advised to take Exit 233 (U.S. 401 South) onto U.S. 1 South and make a right onto Manson Drewry Road to re-access I-85 South.
