Sunday night freeze creates pile-up chaos on St. Louis highways

As many as 45 vehicles were involved in two icy, pile-up crashes in St. Louis on Sunday night after wet roads turned icy.

The accidents happened on January 29th in St. Louis, Missouri on Highway 64 near 270 and on  Interstate 370 eastbound over Interstate 270.

According to Riverfront Times, the wet roads froze, causing slippery conditions. A semi truck then jackknifed in the middle of Highway 64, which led to a pile up involving at least 30 cars. A second crash then occurred on Interstate 370 eastbound over Interstate 270, which involved at least 15 vehicles, reported KSDK.

It is unclear how many injuries were sustained in the incidents. Road conditions in the area are expected to remain treacherous through Monday.
