Teen fatally struck by an 18 wheeler after exiting school bus, Texas Department of Public Safety says

Truck driver Gregory Jackson, 41, of Texarkana, has been arrested for criminal negligent homicide in connection with the death of a teenager who was fatally struck by an 18 wheeler after exiting a school bus near Livingston, Texas, on Thursday afternoon, according to WFLX.

He was booked into the Polk County Jail.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) confirmed that a teenager exiting a school bus was fatally struck by an 18 wheeler on Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. on December 7 north of Livingston, Texas.

Authorities say that a school bus was stopped facing north on U.S. Highway 59 with lights activated and the stop arm extended to allow a student to get off. A Toyota was behind the school bus.

Texas DPS says that a northbound 18 wheeler struck the Toyota and then veered off to strike a 15 year old boy standing in a driveway.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither the Toyota driver or the truck driver were injured.

The Livingston Independent School District issued a statement on the fatal accident:

“Our district lost a member of its family. At times like this, we are reminded how precious life can be and how fragile each life truly isIt is sad when our district loses a member of its family. It is even more tragic when such a young life is taken away from us. We extend our thoughts and sincere condolences to family and friends.”
