Texas DPS releases info on fatal 9 vehicle pileup on I-10

Published:

The Texas Department of Public Safety (TX DPS) has released more information on a fatal pileup crash that occurred in Jefferson County over the weekend.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, on I-10 at mile marker 843.

According to TX DPS, traffic was slowed in the eastbound lanes of I-10.

Officials say that the driver of a 2019 International truck failed to slow for the traffic and struck a BMW from the rear, resulting in a chain reaction crash that ultimately involved 9 vehicles.

The BMW driver, 73 year old Lottie Odom, was transported to a hospital for treatment. Brandon Rogers, 48, who was a passenger in the BMW, died at the scene.

The truck driver, later identified as 38 year old Florida resident Leandre Sime, was not hurt.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash is under investigation.
