Tire blowout sends semi truck into water along I-55

Published:

A truck driver survived a crash off an overpass and into the water on Friday.

The accident happened on February 25th on Interstate 55 near Manchac, Louisiana. However, the rig was not recovered from the water until Sunday night, February 26th.

According to WGNO News, the unnamed driver told Louisiana State Police that one of his tires blew as he was driving along the I-55 southbound bridge. The blowout caused him to lose control of the truck and skid off of the bridge. The truck landed upside down in the water, destroying the trailer.

The truck driver was able to escape the truck and survived the incident with only minor injuries.

I-55 south at Manchac was closed on Sunday for the recovery of the rig. Traffic was allowed to exit on the low road and re-enter at I-55 south at Ruddock during the eight hour recovery, reported WDSU. The recovery was complete at around 8:40 p.m.
