Total closure of I-15 in Las Vegas happening this weekend

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) wants drivers to be ready for a major interstate shutdown taking place this weekend to allow for a bridge demolition project called “Dropicana.”

Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, January 27 through 5 a.m. on Monday, January 30, all lanes of I-15 will be closed in both directions between Flamingo Road and Russell Road in the downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, area.

The interstate closure is part of the “Dropicana” I-15/Tropicana Design Build Project that involves taking down the north half (westbound lanes) of the Tropicana Ave. bridge over I-15 as well as much of the flyover from southbound I-15 to eastbound Tropicana Ave.

Drivers should expect heavy traffic in the Las Vegas resort corridor as well as nearby surface streets and local freeways, NDOT says.

NDOT is asking drivers to plan alternate routes and consider using a navigation app, such as Waze to get around backups.
