Troopers release stunning body cam video from 51 vehicle Ohio Turnpike pileup that killed four

This week, the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) released police body cam video featuring a trooper examining the aftermath of a deadly pileup crash that occurred last month just before Christmas.

The pileup occurred in the eastbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike on December 23, 2022, as whiteout conditions, high winds, blowing snow, and slick road conditions were reported in the area.

OSHP said that the crash occurred after several vehicles became disabled in the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike. Amid the low visibility conditions and winter weather, other eastbound drivers continued to strike the previously disabled vehicles, resulting in the pileup.

Troopers later confirmed that 51 vehicles were involved in the pileup.

Francisco Gutierrez-Martinez, 30, Bernard M. Bloniarz, 59, Julie E. Roth, 37, and Emma L. Smith, 19, were killed in the crash.

Seventy-three others were injured.
