Truck driver arrested for murder in shooting death of fellow trucker in Ohio

A truck driver was arrested on Wednesday for the murder of another semi truck driver shot in the parking lot of a business in Sidney, Ohio.

Forty-eight year old North Carolina-based truck driver Lashawn Dean Hughes has been arrested and charged with one count of Murder, according to the Sidney Police Department (SPD).

At 11:22 a.m. on August 30, SPD was called to the parking lot of Angstrom Fiber for a reported man down. Initially, it was thought that the man was struck by a vehicle.

When officers arrived on scene, they found 32 year old Ohio-based truck driver Brandon Tyler Welsh dead from a gunshot wound in the lot.

Investigators believe that Welsh and Hughes were involved in a road rage incident.

“Both men were semi-truck operators for different companies and neither man had any business association with Angstrom. It appears Angstrom was a random place where the two men’s altercation came to violence,” SPD said.

Police say that Hughes fled the scene of the shooting in his semi truck but was later located in the Village of Anna by the Anna Police Department.

Hughes was booked into the Shelby County Jail.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the Sidney Police Department at 937-498-2351 or Crime Stoppers at 937-492-8477 (TIPS).
