Truck driver charged following U-turn crash that injured two Pennsylvania troopers

A truck driver has been charged with assault and more in connection with a May collision that left two Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) troopers with serious injuries.

Donald Haney Jr. was recently charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault by a vehicle, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure to make a U-turn safely, according to ABC 27.

The charges were filed following a crash that occurred May 19, 2023, in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

According to court documents, Haney was behind the wheel of a semi truck at Taylor Blvd. and Carlisle Pike when he failed to stop for a stop sign, then tried to make a U-turn. While his truck was blocking all five lanes of the road, a police cruiser collided with the trailer.

The troopers inside the cruiser were en route to a police pursuit with lights and sirens activated. They were traveling at 67 m.p.h. when the crash occurred.

The two troopers suffered major injuries, including facial fractures, a broken arm, and a broken jaw.

Haney told investigators that he was attempting to navigate to his next delivery location and did not see the police cruiser until the last moment.
