A Werner Enterprises driver is being celebrated for achieving an impressive safety milestone, according to the company.
Truck driver Tim Dean has achieved 5 million accident-free miles, Werner said in an August 10 announcement. He becomes only the second driver in Werner history to achieve the 5 million mile milestone, after retired driver Charley Endorf.
“Reaching 5 million accident-free miles is an incredibly rare milestone. The average professional truck driver drives about 2 million miles over the course of their career, according to the American Trucking Associations (ATA). Driving 5 million accident-free miles is equivalent to driving around the world more than 200 times,” Werner said in a news release.
Dean will be recognized during a ceremony on Thursday at the company’s Omaha facility.
Dean has driven for Werner since 1988.
Dean has earned many other accolades in his trucking career, including being named as an ATA America’s Road Team Captain, a Werner Road Team Captain, winner of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance IDEA (International Driver Excellence Award) in 2019 and winner of the Nebraska Trucking Association’s Driver of the Year, also in 2019.
