Truck driver saddled with funeral & court costs, prison time after running over three men

Published:

A truck driver is expected to spend one year in prison for an accident that killed three young men in Louisiana last December.

The accident happened on December 6th, 2022 on Interstate 49 near Natchitoches, Louisiana. The truck driver was sentenced this week.

According to WBRZ 2 News, Dylan Young, Brody Moore and Tyran Williams were on their way to Texas for a winter break from Southern University when they got a flat tire. All three men got out to change the tire, and all three were struck by 62-year-old Clyde Gay in a 1997 Freightliner.

Gay reportedly drifted onto the shoulder of northbound I-49, where he hit a Jeep and the three young men. Police found no sign of intoxication or drugs at the time of the accident.

Gay has since pleaded guilty to three counts of negligent homicide and was given three consecutive five year sentences. However, the judge suspended all but one year of those sentences, and Gay is expected to spend only one year in prison. He is also required to pay for funeral expenses and court costs for the families of the deceased men.
